Checking the news one night you hear a report about a notorious serial killer has broken out of prison and is on the run. Nothing too out of the ordinary for the news..... until your house gets hit with a total electrical blackout. Try to stay alive by pumping the gas in your generator to keep the lights on in your house. The man outside has a piercing glare.

Update Log for this version:

  • New Model added and integrated.
  • Intro Video and Outro Video add a story to the game.
  • Music tweaked and fixed bug with window bolting.
  • Main Menu re-added with general menu UI tweaks.
  • Arm now hides so there is less of a shadow caused by the player.
  • Extra Levels now more easily accessible with RUINS having a new unique "win" screen.
    • In fact, since this new level was added all the enemy models are in the game as they all have their own level. :]

GAME JAM SUBMISSION DISCLAIMER

Some of you may remember that I tried doing this for day 4 and it ended so badly that I corrupted the entire project basically making everything broken beyond repair. I got really bummed out about it especially since I contacted one of my 3D artist friends to help out. (It left me so burnt out I didn't do day 5 of this jam)

So I decided to work on a Day 6 version to reintegrate the stuff I did. I've basically have had to work from scratch so the advantage has not been that crazy. (Especially since this project is now WAY DIFFERENT)

The way I am interpreting it is since I wasn't part of this specific chain of games I believe I am in the right to do this. If not I understand. I just want to get something up for my friend.

I've absolutely loved doing this game jam and it's community I hope to see it again in the future.

(Hopefully with less days tbh)

Simple yet fun. Well done

Hello my respect, can I make a video walkthrough of this game? <3

(+1)

Yeah no problem!

Tnx :) <3

Nice job guys! It's really cool to see how this game evolved over time. It was fun to get to work on it too! I really like the addition of the news man. It made for a really good intro.

Great job on this! Even if it may have broken a rule, this still feels like the perfect clean finish to Rural Blackout. I love how unapologetically cheesy the TV segments are too lol, feels very campy, and the new intruder model is great. Even though my version didn't make it to the end I'm pretty happy with this one being the final! (Btw I wanted to say I like how buggy the flesh walls level is, it adds to the reality-void atmosphere and seems intentional so I'd claim it as a feature).

Did you also upload a rural blackout entry to day 4, delete it, then upload a new entry for day 6? I'm getting some weird behavior on my visualizer for this page and I'm not sure if it's an issue on my side or not. https://vykri.com/pass-the-game-2023/

EDIT: Nevermind, just read your disclaimer in your description.

Fixed now. Deleted the entry for the day 4 submission.

Yeah sorry if that messed up some stuff on your end. I just didn’t want it on my profile. That visualizer you made is awesome!!!

(+1)

If it makes you feel any better, I'm pretty sure this guy did the same thing, but didn't mention it in his description https://joltl.itch.io/whack-a-keyboard

(+2)

this is awesome, really glad you picked this up again, and I was not excpecting another level!, it's bit buggy, with the windows not having holes and every time you get rid of the monster it says you used to many lights(but that might be on purposs if so it should say something else), and I love the cutscene, I think we might get top ten with this!

I didn’t add the other level that was from day 5. It was just never integrated. (Honestly I just tried to tweak it so it wasn’t as buggy…)

Thanks btw! I’m glad you liked it.

(+1)

oh guess I didn't see that one, there is so many rural black outs now lol, I just heard there is a multiplayer one!

(+3)

Damn you're the heroes this game needed

Thanks man I appreciate it. Especially since I almost didn’t do it…

Hey I liked what you did! Awesome job

(+1)

Thank you so much!!!

(+2)

You don't know how much I wanted your videos and model to be in the game! I love how you added narrative and context. The base game by Rugbug and Dubscr, Falcon's furniture and plank addition and yours are my absolute favourite for this game~ <3

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I was really scared doing this but I felt so damn bad about it that I HAD TO DO IT! Completely restart my work get that model in and the end product is awesome. I even tweaked the extra level added so that it would fit the narrative of the game.

So happy you like it thank you!
